There comes a time when a company decides to migrate its assets to the cloud. But sometimes asset migration is easier said than done. Unless the business is specializing in cloud computing it should not do it alone, without any preparation.
The least they can do is reading some advice on the topic to avoid a poorly executed migration that can lead to huge money and productivity loss. Remember, sometimes moving to the cloud could mean completely reorganizing the IT infrastructure of the company. Because of this, today we summed up some of our basic advice on how to move to the cloud.
1. Have a technology assessment
The first step of cloud migration should always be an in-depth analysis of the current IT assets and infrastructure. The company should fully consider its business goals, and keep in mind how the cloud should benefit its mission and vision in the future.
Consult with the IT about the process of migrating every asset to the cloud. Ask them to make recommendations to optimize end-user readiness and ensure long-term success.
2. Include your employees
Be transparent about the process to your employees and co-workers. Create interest and support in the topic, educate them, if needed. If the employees do not see why the cloud is useful and how it can benefit their daily work, they will be reluctant to use the new technology, and productivity will drop down.
3. Provide extra support to IT
During the early stages of cloud-based work, everyone will have questions about the systems, and requests towards IT and system admins will sky-rocket. So, be ready to provide extra support for the IT while handling their daily work.
Cloud migrations naturally disrupt existing workflows, particularly in a company’s IT processes. Anticipate areas where production might slow down, and search for temporary resources that can help.
Make sure that during and after implementation there will be trainings so that employees will be getting the most out of the cloud. Individual and group coaching, interactive webinars and a knowledgeable partner will reinforce the new workflow and help employees adapt.
Make it a priority to stay up to date, so you continue to maximize your business with the cloud as the future of computing relies on these services.
