France to introduce its law against hate speech on social media

Facebook and data protection is a hot topic, and we previously discussed issues about Cambridge Analytica, Android based data retrieving it as well as notes on the new German Facebook law. Today we would like to add some to the topic by summing up whether France is ready to follow the German example with a stronger regulation regarding social media sites.

What is „Google Tax”?

How the German Facebook law is shaping online media

Today, we deviate from the usual topics and have a look at some of the Internet’s other burning problems: namely social media, its influential power and how people are reacting to it. Last year was a defining year, as scandals about Fake News, the effect of the Filter Bubble and unmoderated Hate Speeches were unfortunately on the rise. A very strong and strict action against those (especially the Fake News and the Hate Speeches) were made by the German government, with a legalization that has been since nicknamed as the “Facebook law”, even though it also applies to other sites such as Twitter and YouTube.

How cell phone hacking can affect you?

Cell phones, connected to e-mail and social media accounts are a sensitive area and have a major risk of being hacked. Our cell phones have access to our Dropbox, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts, and in most cases to our banking information. A hacked cell phone makes blackmailing, identity theft and losing money a great threat for the owner of the device. With some social engineering, a telephone number and some basic IT knowledge, it is an easy job to hack one’s phone. A trustworthy but otherwise fake site that is convincingly copying a service you use is enough to get the sensitive information they need for a successful hacking.
